We all want our homes  to feel safe and cozy. But some of the most “everyday items” hiding in your kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room may be doing more harm than good. At Going GreenHouse, we’re all about that fresh, non-toxic life- so let’s shine a light on a few common culprits and what it swap them with for a healthier home.

  1. Air Freshener– They smell clean, but the reality is… many plug-ins and sprays are packed with synthetic fragrances and phthalates, which can mess with your hormones and irritate your lungs. Replace with: Essential oil diffusers with real lavender or citrus
  2. All Purpose Cleaners- They often contain harsh ingredients like ammonia and 2-butoxyethanol, which can irritate skin, eyes, and lungs. Replace with: DIY mix of vinegar + water + a few drops of lemon essential oil for that fresh, zesty vibe
  3. Antibacterial Soaps– Triclosan—the old go-to antibacterial ingredient—has been linked to hormone disruption and antibiotic resistance. It’s even been banned in many products, but still lingers in some soaps and sanitizers. Replace with: Castile soap or other gentle, non-toxic hand soaps
  4. Dryer sheets– They might make your laundry smell like “Mountain Rain” or “Fresh Meadow,” but those scents come with a cocktail of chemicals that coat your clothes—and can linger on your skin. Replace with: Wool dryer balls with a drop of essential oil
  5. Bug Sprays and Ant Killers- Sure, they get the job done, but traditional pest sprays often contain neurotoxins. Not ideal around kids, pets, or really… anyone. Replace with: Natural citronella and lemongrass oils to repel mosquitoes
